Alex started playing guitar back in 2004. He was annoyed about singing without music, so he decided to learn to play and sing the song TNT. Soon after, he played the song at a school talent show and people were impressed. He and 2 other students (Francis Sutcliffe and Janis Charbonneau) decided to form a small cover band called Tomorrow's Past. They played a few shows and eventually, Sacha decided he wanted in. He suggested that he sing "Otherside" with them at the next school show. In autumn of 2005, former bassist Francis Sutcliffe left for France and Sacha decided to learn bass in order to fill in for Francis. After confrontations within the band, Tomorrow's Past decided to part ways.
Sacha and Alex continued to jam every now and then, performing short acoustic numbers with vocal harmonies and trumpet solos for school talent shows. In 2007, Sacha decided to assemble a band in order to perform a condensed version of Dream Theater's "Stream of Consciousness" at a competition called "Secondaire en Spectacle". The band was comprised of Sacha on bass, Alex on guitar, Laurent Lapointe-Simard on keyboards, and Dominic Godin on drums (short performances of other covers such as "TNT" and "Sin City" can be seen on Youtube). They went on to win both levels of the competition (local and regional) and got an offer to play at the FestiBlues that summer. Because of a lack of interest, both Laurent and Dominic left the untitled band, and Sacha and Alex were left to fin new bandmates. For the FestiBlues, they asked Chistopher Langevin if he was willing to do the show and he accepted. Soon after the show, the band dispersed.
While Alex composed by himself, Sacha went on to form a Dream Theater tribute band with another contestant in Secondaire en Spectacle, Mehregan Dor (current member of Dialecte) and bar acquaintance Francis Nardi (current Italian guy in Number Tree). The lack of a singer and a guitarist forced the newly formed tribute apart. Sacha then joined Frank's Hardcore band called As Bridges Burned, who went on to win the first round of Emergenza at Club Soda.
Sacha and Alex performed a few acoustic shows and finally decided to invite Frank to try and form a new band, which would later be called Number Tree. (
